change the boot order in bios.

You may need to change the boot order on your computer for a number of reasons. This could be to install a new operating system such as vista.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Time
  1. Step 1

First turn on your computer or restart it. When it first turns on you might see a screen that looks something like this picture. Press the "Del" or the "F2" key (Whichever one it says to press) as soon as you see the screen appear. If you missed the chance or didnt see the screen, restart your computer and repeatadly press "Del" and "F2". If you are still having troubles try my How to Access Bios page.

  2. Step 2

Now that you got into the Bios, there are a few things to note. First make sure that you use the navigation buttons given. They should be somewhere on the screen. Second, note that these settings are very important to your computer and you should never change them without a guide, like this. And last all bios look differently so dont expect yours to look exactly like this.

  3. Step 3

Ok now we need to find the boot menu, and change it so that it boots from your CD drive. Navigate through the bios using the navigation keys given, and look for something that says "Boot Options", "Boot", "Boot Order", etc. It may even be under "Advanced Options" or even in the general menu.

  4. Step 4

Now that we have found the boot order, we can see all the devices that it will try to boot from, and in which order. We need to change that. So using the buttons given to change settings (some bios use "+" and "-" buttons), change the boot order so that the CD Rom Drive is 1st, Removable Devices is 2nd, and your hard drive is 3rd. Anything else can go after your hard drive.

  5. Step 5

Now that the boot settings have been changed, press the Save Changes and Exit button. The computer will save the settings and restart. It should now try booting from your CD Drive first, then your removable drives, then your hard drive.

  6. Step 6

Now that the settings are correct, when you restart your computer it will say "Press any key to boot from CD..." If you want to boot from cd, press any key on the keyboard and it will boot from cd. Now you are done.

Tips & Warnings
  • Write down settings before you change them to be on the safe side.
  • When working inside your bios, be careful of what settings you change, and I would not recommend changing settings unless you know what you are doing or have some type of aid, like this.
