How to dress like Gwen Stefani

The first time I saw Gwen Stefani perform she was opening for Bush. She was in her band No Doubt and it was 1996. She had such an explosive energy I thought, "This woman is a star!" Her style has evolved from punky to more sophisticated but she's never lost her eye for funkiness! Here's how to "Gwen" up your look for 2008!

   Despite her look changing over the years, one pattern that Gwen loves is Houndstooth. She has worn it since the 90's and still does. To be subtle, add a houndstooth scarf or coat and keep the rest of the look monochromatic.

2. The girl knows how to rock leopard. I love leopard myself! She wears it effortlessly by letting the print take center stage. Like houndstooth, wear one piece of leopard such as a dress, shoes, etc and let that piece be the focal point.

3. Gwen also likes bright colors. For a girl who used to dye her hair blue, color doesn't scare her. A handbag is the perfect place to add some super bright colors like pink, green or yellow.

   On her downtime, Gwen likes to be comfortable. Trade your stilettos for some Old School sneakers and jeans. She wears her jeans baggy (maybe she borrowed Gavin's!). Pull the look together with a slouchy beret and a cool coat.

   Now for the "glam", Gwen look. She favors a retro Hollywood look. If you are going to buy one dress make it a white satin or silk slip dress. That's very glam and retro. Think Gwen's "The Aviator" look. That dress can work all year round and you'll love it for years.

7. If you have bleached blonde hair, you are in luck. Gwen has been platinum for years! She wears her hair in soft curls for red carpet and casual in ponytails for downtime. If you're a brunette, you can still rock the look. I don't recommend bleaching your hair unless you can keep up with it and that's hard. So brunettes, can still style their hair as Gwen does without the drastic hair color.
