Things You'll Need:
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup wheat germ
- 1/2 cup dry milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 6 Tablespoons shortening
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup water (to make a stiff dough)
- large mixing bowl
- rolling pin
- cookie-baking sheets
- cookie cutters
-
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Mix well. Knead dough until smooth and elastic. This is an amazingly delicious smelling dough. -
Step 2
Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface to a 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutters. Our favorites are the dog-bone and heart shapes but a variety of holidays make this even more fun for us humans. Try hearts for Valentine's Day, shamrocks for St. Patrick's Day, Easter is a must for the egg shape, firecrackers for Independence Day, pumpkins and skulls are great for that most Scorpio of holidays, the cornucopia and evergreen tree shapes wrap up the year causing your pooch to include more walks as a new year's resolution.
-
Step 3
Place on an ungreased cookie-baking sheet and bake for approximately 30 minutes. This recipe makes between 1.5 and 2 dozen biscuits.
