Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Whiffle ball
  1. Step 1

Grip the whiffle ball with the holes facing up. Your hand will be mainly on the side and underside of the ball.

  2. Step 2

Think of the grip of this pitch as the same of the screwball, but the grip is on the side. Your index finger should rest along the seem of the ball, with the middle finger spaced 2 inches away from your index finger.

  3. Step 3

The thumb is also along the seem, but on the opposite side of the ball. The ring and pinky finger rest together on the underside of the ball, which is the solid side.

  4. Step 4

The sinker is thrown either side-arm, or with a three-quarter arm action. Hold the ball with a loose grip, this will provide the most effective sink on your pitch.

Tips & Warnings
  • Very few pitchers can throw the sinker effectively, so expect lots of practice in order to master it.
  • The sinker is NOT recommended for young pitchers. It can be very stressful on the arm.
