Things You'll Need:
- Flat iron
- Blow dryer
- Hair serum
-
Step 1
Dry your hair before you begin straightening it with a flat iron. You can either use a blow dryer to dry the hair or allow it to air dry. It is especially important to avoid straightening the hair if it is still soaking wet, but straightening it while it is even a little bit damp is not the best thing for your hair, either.
-
Step 2
Brush the hair before you begin to straighten it. If you do not brush the knots out, using the flat iron to straighten the hair is going to cause breakage. This breakage will begin to show over time, so brushing the hair is very important.
-
Step 3
Use a hair serum that offers protection against heat. There are many different products on the market for you to choose from. To find the best hair serum for you, ask your hair stylist or an employee at the local beauty supplies store. No matter what serum you choose, the instructions will probably tell you to apply a small amount evenly through the hair.
-
Step 4
Straighten the hair properly with the flat iron. Avoid putting the flat iron on the highest heat setting, because a lower heat setting will cause much less heat damage. Additionally, make sure that you only gently run the flat iron over your hair. Pressing the flat iron tightly against the hair for too long can damage the hair.
-
Step 5
Begin using a moisturizing conditioner on a regular basis. If you use a flat iron on your blonde hair more than once a week, you may even want to use a leave-in conditioner to ensure that the hair is easier to comb and does not become too dry or brittle. It is especially important to make sure that you keep hair that is dyed blonde hydrated.
