The pubic area is generally covered. Since it's not exposed to fresh air, it's a prime place for bacteria and sweat to fester. As a result, it's no surprise that both pimples and ingrown hairs are quite common in the pubic region. Both men and women can experience these difficulties in the pubic region. If you engage in any kind of hair removal practice in the area such as shaving or waxing, you're more likely to experience ingrown hairs. There are, however, many things you can do to get rid of pubic pimples and ingrown hairs.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Body scrub
  • Cotton undergarments
  • Hot water
  • Cloth
  • Tweezers
  • Toner
  1. Step 1

Use a body scrub on your pubic region twice a week. This will help to remove dead skin cells that clog pores and hair follicles, leading to pimples and ingrown hairs. Distribute the body scrub with a loofah which will exfoliate the area even more.

  2. Step 2

Wear loose, cotton undergarments. Pimples and ingrown hairs are often caused by tight, synthetic underwear. Since your skin can't breathe, bacteria and sweat remain trapped next to the skin which lead to pimples and ingrown hair. Opt for breathable cotton underwear instead, and ensure that it isn't too tight. If it leaves creases on your skin, you need to go up a size.

  3. Step 3

Apply a hot compress to pimples and ingrown hairs. This will help to draw pus out of them and reduce inflammation. Wet a cloth with hot water and apply to the area for five minutes.

  4. Step 4

Squeeze the sides of the ingrown hair gently, if you can see the hair. If you apply gentle pressure, the hair may be released from the skin. If it doesn't come out with light pressure, reapply the hot compress. Do not force or pick at the bump as this can lead to bleeding and scarring.

  5. Step 5

Use tweezers to pull out the ingrown hair if its tip is exposed. Sometimes the hair's shaft simply needs to be freed from the skin. Only do this if part of the hair is exposed.

  6. Step 6

Apply toner or astringent to the pubic region. This will remove bacteria and prevent future pimples and ingrown hairs. You can also find lotions and toners that are specifically designed to prevent ingrown hairs in the pubic region.

Tips & Warnings
  • Waxing is more likely to cause ingrown hairs than shaving.
  • Never pick at pimples or ingrown hairs in the pubic region. This can lead to severe skin damage.
