    Things You'll Need

    • Black sweatpants
    • Black turtleneck
    • Headband
    • Backpack
    • Black Felt
    • Red Felt
    • Glue
    • Two red pom poms
    • Two red pipe cleaners
    • Small pillow or fiberfill stuffing

Create the antennae for the lady bug costume. Wrap two red pipe cleaners on the top of the headband. Shape the pipe cleaners to stick out and glue a red pom pom on each end. Use plenty of glue so that they will hold up. Let this sit aside for several hours to dry.

Cover the backpack with black felt, attached with safety pins. This way you will not ruin the backpack and it can be reused later on. This will be the base of your lady bug shell. It helps if the straps of the back pack are black, but if they are not, you can cover those as well with black felt.

Cut a round oval of red felt, as well as several smaller black circles. Glue the red felt onto the covered backpack, and randomly place the smaller black felt pieces onto the red. This will give you the lady bug look.

Stuff the backpack with a pillow or fiberfill stuffing. This will give you the rounded look of the lady bug's shell. This can be easily removed after Halloween.

Dress your child in the costume. Dress him all in black and add the headband and the backpack to create the look. Add black gloves and a scarf if they will be outside in the cold for a long period of time. This costume is nice because you can add several layers without losing the look of the costume.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Let the glue dry on the pom poms for a long time to ensure they stick.
