Do you have unused containers of flat paint sitting around, but need glossy for your next painting project? Save some money by turning it into the glossy paint that you need.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Glossy paint in the same base and color
  • Large mixing container
  • Paint mixing bit for your drill
  1. Step 1

Purchase glossy paint in the same base and color as the flat paint that you already have. Buy interior oil, for example, if your flat paint is interior oil. You'll need to purchase an amount equal to what you already have to create a satin sheen. Double what you already have to create a semi-gloss sheen. And, buy at least three times what you already have to approach a glossy finish.

  2. Step 2

Pour your flat paint into a large container. Then, add an equal amount of glossy paint.

  3. Step 3

Stir the two together using a drill outfitted with a paint mixing bit.

  4. Step 4

Test the glossiness of the resulting paint.

  5. Step 5

Continue to add glossy paint, until you are satisfied with the sheen.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to mix up enough paint to finish the job. It will be difficult to replicate the sheen, if you run out.
  • Store extra paint for touch ups.
  • If you only need a small amount of glossy paint, it's probably cheaper to buy what you need.
