How to Prepare for a Second Interview

An interview can be an extremely stressful event, and the pressure can mount even further if you are asked in for a second interview. You want to shine and make an impression, but you may be concerned about what kind of questions you could be asked again. You may not even re-interview with the same person, making the encounter with a new interviewer quite intimidating. Here are a few suggestions for preparing yourself for that crucial follow-up.

Instructions

    • 1

Ask who you will be interviewing with. You will have to prepare less for an interview with someone you have already met, simply because you know what to expect from them. If a new person will be interviewing you, you will need to prepare a fresh set of potential questions and answers.

    • 2

Prepare to negotiate an offer. You know a lot about the company by now, and you know what you have to offer the team. Be prepared to defend yourself and let the interviewer know what you are worth. (If you end up feeling unsure of the offer he does make, let him know you will get back to him. This will give you the opportunity to weigh the offer on your own time.)

    • 3

Arrive early to the interview. No matter who you are interviewing with, being late will make a bad impression. You want to do nothing but shine in a second interview.

    • 4

Prepare a list of questions to ask. You have already been to one interview at the company, and it is very possible that you immediately thought of several questions you wished you would have asked. Write them down so you remember what to ask when you arrive for the second interview.

    • 5

Dress to impress. You can get an idea of what to wear at the interview by recalling what your first interviewer was wearing. You may have dressed too formally, or maybe not formally enough. Having a second interview gives you another chance to win over your audience.
