How to Make Candle Lanterns for Holidays

- Small paper bags (orange and black)
- Scissors
- Sand
- Votive candles
- Marker pen
- Lighter or matches

Decorate the bag with cutout designs or "Happy Halloween." You can use brown paper sandwich bags or colored holiday gift bags with handles (the gift bags are thicker and sturdier).

Place sand on the bottom of each bag, filling about one-quarter full, so there is a good layer for the candle to rest on.

Place the bags bordering walkways or patios, then place the candle inside. Place the candle in the center of the sand to avoid flames touching the side of the bag.

Right before guest arrive, light your lanterns.

Tips & Warnings
Glitter or decals can also been used to decorate your bags and make them extra special.
Be careful with the candles and any open flame. Keep bags on nonflammable surface like cement, tile or stone. Do not place directly on a wooden deck or table.
