How to Save Money Christmas Shopping Online

Many people dread going out into stores at Christmastime. Unless you stalk the pre-dawn sales on the Friday after Thanksgiving, finding deals can be a chore. Shopping malls are packed throughout the entire month of December. What if you could avoid all of the crowds, sit on your couch and still save money on Christmas gifts? Here are some ways to save money by doing your holiday shopping online.

      Shop online on Cyber Monday. Cyber Monday, the Monday after Thanksgiving, is the Internet version of Black Friday. Hundreds of stores offer discounts that are only made available to online shoppers. While the deals on Cyber Monday aren't as good as they were when the concept was new, shoppers can still save money. Many stores offer free shipping on Cyber Monday, as well.

      Go on store websites a week before Black Friday and search for coupons. Everybody knows you can get coupons in the paper on Thanksgiving. But department and electronic stores will have similar and sometimes better coupons that can be printed from their official website. You can usually use these deals for online shopping, as well.

      Use PayPal to purchase Christmas gifts online. PayPal offers discounts to shoppers several times during the year, including the month of December. If you have an account with PayPal, you will receive an email about this as Christmas approaches. You can also find these deals by logging into your PayPal account. Click the “Products & Services” tab on your account screen and select the “Shop online” link.

      Sign up to receive emails from your favorite stores. These emails will allow you to use “online-only” discounts not available to in-store shoppers. Most electronic and department stores allow you to do this directly from their website. You can also sign up to receive these emails while in the store. Expect to receive at least two emails a week from these stores during December.

      Log onto the website The Bargainist during December (see Resources below). This site lists the best online shopping deals. Simply put, Bargainist searches for discounts for you. Browse the home page and click on any appealing links. Begin searching Bargainist in October, as online Christmas deals come early.
