Although many weddings are in the spring, winter is a very beautiful time of year to have a wedding. The colors are beautiful, the weather crisp and in many places, ice and snow provide beautiful vistas. Of course, if you are having a winter wedding, you'll probably want a wedding that goes along with the idea of winter. Picking out the dresses for your bridesmaids can be a bit tricky, so here are a few ideas to help you pick bridesmaid dresses for a winter wedding.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take the winter weather into consideration. A winter wedding is not the time for those sleeveless or strapless dresses. Sure they're beautiful, but you don't want your bridesmaids to freeze stiff during the wedding. Make sure that the dresses you choose are suitable for the winter weather in the area that you are getting married in. Longer sleeves and heavier fabrics are great ideas when choosing bridesmaid dresses for a winter wedding.

  2. Step 2

Choose dresses with a winter color scheme. Although the first colors you may think of are various shades of red and green, there are many other great winter colors to choose from as well. Pale blues and silvers are wonderful winter colors, as are deep purples, navy and gold. All of these colors are wonderful ideas for a winter wedding, so don't feel like you can only choose from the reds and greens that are so prevalent around the holidays.

  3. Step 3

Make sure the winter bridesmaid dresses compliment your wedding gown. You want to make sure that your bridesmaids look great, but the winter bridesmaid dresses are supposed to compliment your wedding gown. This is your big day, and while everyone should look lovely, you are going to be the center of attention. The dresses for the bridesmaids should be chosen to compliment the wedding gown. When you're shopping for the bridesmaid dresses, consider taking along a picture of the wedding dress so you can find the best options that will compliment what you'll be wearing.

  4. Step 4

Consider adding a wrap to the ensemble. It's going to be chilly and you'll probably be spending some time outdoors, so a nice wrap is a great idea. Not only will it provide some warmth, but there are many stylish options available that will look great on your bridesmaids.

  5. Step 5

Remember that darker colors are more flattering to everyone. While you do have several great colors to choose from for the winter bridesmaids dresses, you'll want them to flatter your friends. Light colors may look beautiful on the rack, but remember that most people look great in darker colors, since they are slimming and they'll fit the body style of everyone.
