Instructions

    • 1

Measure your child from the top of the shoulder to just above the knee. Measure the width from the end of one shoulder to another. Cut the fabric to the correct length based on the shoulder to knee measurement. For the width, double the shoulder to shoulder measurement and cut. You should have two identical rectangles of fabric.

    • 2

Hem the two long sides of the fabric (individually) one half inch in. On the top and bottom of each piece of fabric, fold it in 2 inches and sew it to make a tube where you will be putting the drawstring. Turning the shiny sides of the fabric so they face each other, sew them together starting just under the tube for an inch or two. Leaving enough space for the arms on each side, start the seam again until you reach the seam on the bottom tube. Leave the tube ends open on both sides. Turn the garment right side out again.

    • 3

Cut enough narrow silver ribbon to thread ribbon through the top tube (all the way around through both sides of material), leaving at least six inches coming out each side. Do the same on the bottom tube.

    • 4

Place the garment on the child, and cinch the fabric in on the drawstring until the garment sits comfortably and won't fall off her shoulders. Tie the strings together and tuck the long ends into the costume.

    • 5

Inflate the plastic swimming ring and have the child hold it up around her waist under the costume. Cinch the material on the bottom half of the costume, tightly enough to keep the tube from falling out once it is let go, but not too tight for the child to walk comfortably. Tie the ribbon ends together and tuck the long ends up inside the costume.

    • 6

Prepare the ribbon for the hat, by spelling out Hershey Kiss in blue iron-on letters along a two-foot length of the satin ribbon.

    • 7

For the hat, cut out a circle of cardstock the circumference of your child's head. Cut a straight line to the center of the circle and tuck one end of the white ribbon under the inside end of the slit. Secure with tape or glue. Take the one edge of the slit and fold it over the top of the other edge until you have made a cone shaped hat that fits around the top of your child's head. Secure with tape or glue. Glue excess silver fabric onto the hat until all the paper is covered.

    • 8

Wear this costume with a white long-sleeved shirt and white pants or tights.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may want to punch discreet holes through the fabric and paper on the hat if you intend to secure it with bobby pins.

  • You can also spray paint the hat silver instead of gluing the fabric onto it.
