Step 1
Get a feel for the foosball table. This especially includes the midfielder stick, the midfielder players’ locations on the stick and their relation to the rest of the table. Move the stick back and forth. Notice how easily it moves back and forth. Also, get comfortable playing the midfielders. Adjust your body so that it works best for you to move the midfielders around easily and avoid bumping into the player next to you.
-
Step 2
Take a few practice shots and passes to your strikers. This will help prepare your reflexes and offensive and defensive moves in the game. Remember which moves worked the best while kicking and blocking shots, and use them during the game. Work on improving your hand-eye coordination during the practice.
-
Step 3
Start playing hard the moment the ball is dropped into play. Be alert and ready as soon as the game begins. As a midfielder, the ball will most probably end up at your feet, literally. Be ready to kick the ball and make quick passes to your strikers or simply go for the shot yourself. Keep your eye on the ball at all times, and play it as soon as it gets to you. You may even have a great opportunity to catch the goalie off-guard and score from midfield, or pass a scoring assist to one of the strikers.
-
Step 4
If the ball is in front of you, keep your midfielders in line with the ball. If the goalie or opposing midfielders take a quick pass or shot, you may have a chance to dish it straight back into the goal. You will also be playing defense, keeping a fast shot from heading toward your goal. Even if your own strikers have the ball, keep your midfielders in line with the ball. (You never know if the ball will very quickly go in the direction of your goal.)As the midfielder, think of yourself as the fortress in the center of the field. Try to make sure nothing gets past you. Always keep your midfielders in line with the ball and try to dish it in to your strikers or into the goal. If the ball is behind you, keep your midfielders feet up. Do this so your goalie can have a chance to make a goal and keep your midfielders from accidently blocking his shot.
-
Step 5
When the ball gets into your possession, shoot and/or pass it with strategy, skill and finesse. Try angled shots or pass from side to side before shooting to throw off the goalie and make a score. Don't be afraid to take some time with the ball to lull the goalie or force him into making a mistake. When you have the ball, you're in control. Take the initiative and score. Don't be timid--just shoot it.But also remember not to be a ball hog. You are not a striker, whose sole goal is to score. Throw the goalie off from time to time with accurate passes to your strikers so they can "one time" it straight into the goal.

Step 6
No matter how far ahead or behind your team may be, never stop playing offense with fervor and intensity. In foosball, it is very easy and common for a team to come from behind and pull out a win.
