Few things are more frightening in mixed martial arts then being trapped in a Guillotine. You are face down on your knees with your opponent's arm wrapped around your neck. Your body is trapped between your opponent's legs so you can't move. There is a way to escape from a Guillotine, but it is challenging. You must use body position and pressure points to slip out of your opponent's grasp. Do this quickly since no fighter can survive in a Guillotine for more than a few seconds.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Tuck your chin to your chest. It is imperative that you prevent your opponent from cutting off your air supply. Pressing your chin hard against your chest makes it harder for your opponent to get his forearm on your larynx. If he does, you are finished.

  2. Step 2

Turn your head toward her arm pit. This may seem disgusting, but it could save you. Turning your head puts the pressure from her choking arm on the muscles on the side of your neck. It moves your larynx to the side and keeps your airway open.

  3. Step 3

Grab your opponent's hand with your closest hand. Pull his hand straight down and away from your neck. This will give you a little more breathing room. Try to wrap your fingers around the meaty part of your opponent's hand beneath his thumb. Peel his hand away as you pull down. You probably wont be able to remove your opponent's arm this way but it could give you a few more breaths to work with.

  4. Step 4

Reach up with your other hand and find the pressure point beneath your opponent's Adam's apple. It is a small soft gap right where the collar bones meet. Try pressing this pressure point on yourself. It is incredibly painful and can only be tolerated for a moment. You will use this pressure point to escape the Guillotine.

  5. Step 5

Jab your straightened fingers into your opponent's neck at the pressure point. Try to push his Adam's apple slightly upward toward his head. Since your opponent is lying on his back, try to drive your fingers straight through his neck into the ground. Leverage and gravity are on your side. Your opponent will not allow you to keep jabbing him in the throat, so make your jab count the first time.

  6. Step 6

Use your jab as a push. The moment you attack the pressure point your opponent will be distracted. Use the force of your pressing to pull you out of his headlock. Peel his arm down and try to slide your head out. It is important that your chin is tucked and your face is turned into your opponent's arm pit. That way your slippery face is sliding against his arm instead of the hook of your chin.
