Things You'll Need:
- Sunscreen
- Wide-rimmed hat
- Sunglasses
- Eye cream
- Dermatologist
- Botox injections
-
Step 1
Put on sunscreen with a high SPF level daily. Since skin around the eyes is so thin, it's best to opt for the highest level of protection in this area. Confirm that your sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
-
Step 2
Wear a wide-rimmed hat and full-coverage sunglasses. While essential, sunscreen doesn't offer 100% protection. If you'll be in the sun for extended periods of time, it's wise to opt for the additional coverage that a hat and sunglasses provide.
-
Step 3
Hydrate the skin around your eyes with a high-quality moisturizer. The skin around the eyes is prone to dryness so it's imperative to keep it hydrated.
-
Step 4
Apply anti-wrinkle eye cream each night. Anti-wrinkle creams designed for the eyes are usually thicker and richer than those for the face. Since the skin around the eyes is vulnerable, it can handle a richer cream than the rest of the face.
-
Step 5
Talk to your dermatologist about Botox injections. Botox will soften the appearance of your existing wrinkles and delay the onset of future wrinkles. Since Botox is temporary, you will need to get new injections every three to six months in order to maintain results.
-
Step 6
Relax your face. Squinting or scrunching your eye area repeatedly will lead to deeper wrinkles. Check in with yourself throughout the day and release any tension you are holding in the area.
-
Step 7
Avoid cigarette smoke. Smoking has been shown to cause wrinkles and speed up the aging process.
-
Step 8
Be careful with the skin around the eyes. Since it is more prone to damage than skin elsewhere on the face, you should take extra care when touching it. Do not rub or pull at the eye area. Use your ring finger--your weakest finger--to apply creams and lotions there.
