How to Find Obscure Characters in Disney World
Sure, everyone knows how to find Mickey and his closest friends Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto in Disney World. It's also fairly easy to find Disney Princesses such as Cinderella and Ariel. Winnie the Pooh and his friends Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet are also pretty easy to spot. But what about some of your other favorite Disney characters you don't get to see all the time? There are a few (often less crowded) areas of the parks where "obscure" Disney characters can sometimes be found.

Pick up a guide map as well as a schedule of shows and character greeting times and locations, no matter which of the four Disney Parks you go to. This can tell you when and where characters are available for meet and greets so you don't have to guess. The "big name" characters stay pretty much the same throughout the years, but many of the other character greeting spots will change based on the popularity of new Disney shows and movies, such as Kim Possible in Hollywood Studios and Captain Jack Sparrow in Magic Kingdom.

Head to Magic Kingdom. This is where people expect to find the most places to meet and greet "big name" characters throughout the day, such as Mickey and friends and Winnie the Pooh and friends in Mickey's Toontown Fair. However, Magic Kingdom also has a few lesser known areas where you can find other "smaller name" characters. Check over by the Pirates of the Caribbean ride where you can often find Captain Hook and Smee and, more recently, Captain Jack Sparrow on occasion. It doesn't hurt to look around in Frontierland by Splash Mountain for a chance to catch Brer Fox and Brer Bear causing some trouble. Buzz Lightyear is a frequent visitor to Tomorrowland, near the queue area for the Carousel of Progress that is directly across from his ride, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. However, probably the best place to find the most obscure characters in the Magic Kingdom is outside of Tony's Town Square restaurant and the Town Square Exposition Hall, tucked off to the right hand side of the park's main entrance. Here, characters such as Pinocchio, Geppetto, J. Worthington "Honest John" Foulfellow (the fox from Pinocchio), Robin Hood, Prince John and Friar Tuck often go unnoticed by those entering the park who head straight for the castle or are otherwise distracted by "big name" characters such as Daisy, Donald, Pluto, Chip, Dale and Goofy at the center on Main Street.

Stop over in Epcot. The two main areas for "big name" characters in Epcot are in Future World, but the obscure ones can be found tucked away throughout the World Showcase. In the Mexico Pavilion, Donald can sometimes be found wearing traditional Mexican clothing. Aladdin, Jasmine and the Genie can often be seen at varying times in Morocco and princesses such as Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) and Belle (sometimes with the Beast) can be found in France. The United Kingdom is also a good place to find Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore tucked away in an often less crowded character location than in the Magic Kingdom. Snow White and Dopey can be found in Germany, Koda and Kenai from Brother Bear are sometimes seen in Canada, and on rare occasions, Mulan and Mushu can be spotted in China. Dining in Akerhaus in Norway provides visitors with a chance to meet Cinderalla, Aurora, Snow White, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan (on occasion) and Alice in Wonderland (on occasion).

Make your way to Hollywood Studios. The Animation Courtyard is a good place to find Playhouse Disney favorites and taking the Magic of Disney Animation tour often gives you exposure to characters from the most recent films such as Ratatouille and Cars (also, during Extra Magic Hours for Disney resort guests, Mickey and Minnie can sometimes be found here, with significantly smaller wait times than any other Mickey meet and greet locations). Across from the new Toy Story Midway Mania ride, you can find Woody and Buzz and sometimes the Green Army men are seen cruising up and down Mickey Ave. or Streets of America. Kim Possible and the Power Rangers can often be found at varying times throughout the day on Street of America and Monsters Inc. stars Sully and Mike Wizowski are tucked away at the end of the Backlot Tour. During Star Wars weekends (usually in May, check Disney website for details) the majority of your favorite Star Wars characters, from Chewbacca to Queen Amidala, can be found outside the Star Tours ride.

Head over to Animal Kingdom. At the main entrance throughout the day, you have a chance to see many obscure Disney animal favorites, such as Launchpad McQuack (from Ducktales), Terk (from Tarzan), Timone (from Lion King), Friar Tuck (from Robin Hood), and Baloo (from Jungle Book). Taking the train out to Rafiki's Planet Watch will allow you to meet Rafiki and sometimes Jiminey Cricket, too. Lilo and Stitch can often be found tucked away on Discovery Island and the traditional "big name" characters can be found in their safari gear in Camp Minnie Mickey.
