Like ski bindings, snowboard bindings attach you to your snowboard, and should be chosen to fit your boots, your board and your snowboarding style. Most bindings come with base plates, which are used to mount the bindings to the snowboards. So what are the basics when it comes to fitting snowboard bindings?

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide between strap or step-in bindings. These two types of bindings are the most commonly used, and each requires a different type of boot. Strap bindings hold your boots in place with straps and buckles and are usually worn with soft boots. Step-ins are just what their name suggests and work with hard boots.

  2. Step 2

Match the bindings to your boot size. There are many bindings manufacturers, and bindings are not a one-size-fits all device. Make sure that the bindings fit securely on your boots.

  3. Step 3

Choose bindings that will fit your board. Bring your board when choosing bindings to make sure they will fit properly on your equipment.

  4. Step 4

Consider your snowboarding style. Are you a beginner or advanced? Softer bindings tend to be better for beginners and freestylers because they are more flexible. More rigid or stiff bindings tend to respond better to a riders’ movements, and are more popular with advanced riders.

  5. Step 5

Buy to your budget. No surprise, bindings come in a wide range of prices. Softer bindings tend to be less expensive; stiffer bindings cost more. However cheap is not always the best choice. Do your homework and check out different brands and their reputations.
