How to Dress Like Pippy Longstocking for Halloween

It’s Halloween time again! It’s time to dress up in your costume and go to a party or go trick-or-treating. Buying a new Halloween costume each year can cost a lot of money and add up quickly. If you want to have a cute costume, but don’t want to spend a lot of money, the Pippi Longstocking costume is what you are looking for. You can easily find the accesories, whether it’s in your closet or your local thrift store. Here are some tips on how to dress like Pippi Longstocking for Halloween.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blue dress with overall straps or denim shorts
  • Red and white striped, long-sleeved shirt
  • Tights or knee high stockings
  • Old, worn shoes
  • Wire hanger
  • Red-haired wig
  • Blue scarf
  • Brown Kohl eye liner
  1. Step 1

Wear a blue, knee-length dress with straps. If you can’t find a denim dress with straps, look for a khaki-colored dress with straps or a pair of denim shorts. Add patches in the place of pockets to give the dress more Pippi-like character.

  2. Step 2

Wear a long-sleeved shirt. Choose a shirt that has red and white stripes. You’ll wear the shirt under the dress or with the shorts.

  3. Step 3

Wear a pair of striped tights or knee high stockings. You can choose between matching or mismatched stockings. For mismatched stockings, choose red and green or red and blue. The mismatched stockings can either be solid colored or colors with white stripes. Instead of the mismatched look, you can go for matching stockings or tights. These can also be solid colored or striped.

  4. Step 4

Wear a pair of old, worn shoes. If the shoes show a lot of wear and tear, the better they’ll go with the costume. Choose shoes that have shoelaces or buckles. Avoid sandals or other open-toed shoes.

  5. Step 5

Fix your hair. If you don’t have red hair, you may consider dying it red for this costume. If you don’t want to dye your hair, you can choose a red wig. You can find the wig at your local costume shop. Braid your hair into two braids, one on each side of your head. Take the wire hanger and straighten it out. Cut it short enough to fit into the braid, causing the braid to stand up to the side. Avoid any wire sticking out of the braid.

  6. Step 6

Accessorize your costume. Take a brown-colored Kohl eye liner pencil and fill your face with dots, which represent freckles. Wear a blue scarf if you have one. If you have a stuffed monkey, carry it with you.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don’t have red hair, consider dying it red or wearing a red wig.
  • If you are trick-or-treating, don't choose shoes just because they go great with your costume. Wear shoes that go with the costume and are comfortable to walk around in.
