Step 1
Selecting a new Finder window.Open a new Finder window using your Command-Shift-N hot key or open a new window with “File--New” in the Mac menu bar.

Dragging a new application icon to the tool bar.In your new Finder window, navigate to the application or file you wish to add to the tool bar. In this example, we are going to add “Address Book” to the window tool bar. Select and drag the icon to the tool bar. After a brief delay of about 1 second, you will notice that the elements in the tool bar will reposition as you drag the new icon in the tool bar. Simply release the mouse to position the new icon in the tool bar.

Repositioning the icon in the Finder tool bar.To reposition the new icon in the tool bar, select the tool bar icon with the key combination of Option-Command-Click. Hold down the key sequence and click the icon and you will be able to reposition the icon anywhere on the tool bar.

Ctrl-click on the icon to remove it from the tool bar.To remove the icon from the tool bar, Ctrl-Click and select “Remove Item.”
