Instructions

    • 1

Set up the Montessori word cards in a center that is the literacy center. Make sure there is plenty of room for the children to work with the cards on their own. Make sure that they are accessible for the children as well.

    • 2

Bring the children to the center and demonstrate the cards to them. The cards should have the singular word on the front, and the child should be able to have the choice of adding the plurals to the cards. For instance, for the card "cat" they can either add an "s," an "es" or an "en" to the card to make it plural.

    • 3

Show them how only one of the plural word cards will fit onto the "cat" card, and that card is the "s" card. Demonstrate this by putting a card on and letting the children see how it works.

    • 4

Show them how it looks when the correct plural is put onto the card, and show them what it looks like when the incorrect plural is put onto the card, so they will know how to tell if they have it right or wrong.

    • 5

Allow the children to do the center on their own, and observe them to make sure that they get it right.
