Kids of all ages love pizza. So whether you are planning a party for a toddler, teen or someone in-between, you will not go wrong with a pizza party. However, rather than rounding up the gang and heading to a noisy, crowded, overpriced chain restaurant, try these steps to create a birthday party that is one of a kind, just like your child.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pizza boxes
  • Marker
  • Red checkered tablecloths
  • Wine jugs and candles
  • Balloons and streamers
  • Pizza crust and toppings
  • Computer and printer
  • Ball
  • Round cake, frosting, food coloring, candy and fruit
  1. Step 1

Contact a local pizzeria and see if you can purchase some small pizza boxes from them. You will need one for each guest. They may even give them to you. Write the party details on the inside of each pizza box with a marker. Deliver the invitations to each guest at home, if possible.

  2. Step 2

Decorate your home to look like an Italian restaurant. Place red checkered tablecloths on all of the party tables. Melt small candles onto the mouths of wine jugs and set them on the tables. Hang red, white and green streamers and balloons around the room.

  3. Step 3

Have items available so that each guest can create their own special pizza. For smaller children, provide English muffins and help them top with sauce, cheese and other prepared toppings, then warm in the oven. Older children can use pre-made crusts, or buy frozen pizza dough and let them knead, toss and roll out their own pizzas from the crust up.

  4. Step 4

Make word games using your computer. Scramble names of toppings such as anchovy or mushroom and set a timer. The player with the most unscrambled words wins. Print "pepperoni" at the top of a page, and the player who can spell the most words using those letters wins. Younger kids can play "Toss the Dough," which is just a different name for "Hot Potato." Have players stand in a circle and throw a small ball while you play music (see Resources below). When the music stops, the player holding the ball is out. Keep playing until you have a winner.

  5. Step 5

Frost a round layer cake with icing tinted red using food coloring to look like pizza sauce. Top with shredded coconut for cheese, and use candies for toppings, such as sliced or pressed gumdrops, shapes cut from fruit rolls or even pieces of fresh fruit.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you decide to give goody bags, stick with non-food items, since guests will have had so much good stuff to eat already.
  • Check with your guests' parents regarding any possible food allergies.
