Instructions

    • 1
Fresh black walnuts with green hulls

Visit your local natural health food store or one of the websites cited in the resource section to obtain cloves, wormwood, black walnut tincture, carlic, hawthorne berry, and yucca (see Resources). You can order these herbs online and you can make your own black walnut tincture by following the link.

Give your dog a capsule of clove, wormwood, and hawthorne berry each day right before meals. Also, give your dog two drops of black walnut tincture and the suggested dose of yucca daily. You should calculate the actual dosage for your dog based on your dog’s weight. If you order a parasite cleanse kit, it will come with a dosage guide recommended for an adult. Divide the dosage based on your dog's weight.

    • 3

Increase the dosages given every few days as your dog builds up a tolerance. The dosage guide tells you precisely how much to increase and when. Just remember to divide by your dog’s weight. For example, if your dog weighs 50 pounds and the recommended dosage is for an average adult of 150 pounds, divide all dosages by three. This is because 50 is one-third of 150.

    • 4

Feed your dog a healthy balanced diet during this treatment time but do not overfeed as it may stress your dog's system. Good nutrition is important to help your dog fight off heartworms and utilize the herbs.

    • 5

Exercise should be limited during initial treatment. Allowing your dog to run and jump could cause a heart attack. The yucca and hawthorne berry are supposed to help strengthen the heart.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once your dog is cured of heartworms, use a maintenance parasite cleanse program to keep your dog parasite free or use a monthly heartworm preventative.

  • Dogs can continue to test positive for up to six months because of residual traces in the blood stream.

  • Some of these herbs are toxic in high doses so increase quatities by small amounts over several days.

  • There is no guaranteed cure for heartworm and some dogs die from this disease.
