Step 1
Prepare the base for the tree by cutting a section of wood down to 5 square inches. Drill a hole to the size of the dowel in the center of the wood. Paint the wooden base with red acrylic paint. Allow to dry. Apply a coat of wood glue to the base of the dowel. Insert it into the wood, making sure the dowel is straight. Allow to dry. Push the cone down onto the dowel. The dowel should then run through the center of the cone to hold it upright.
-
Step 2
Cut the evergreen boughs into sections that measure 2 to 4 inches. Sort by size and set aside. Beginning at the bottom of the cone, grasp a stem of evergreens. Insert the cut end into the cone on an angle. The evergreens should point slightly downward. Work around the cone to create a layer of evergreens. Work your way up from there. Select evergreens and insert them into the cone until you have filled in about a third of the tree.
-
Step 3
Choose evergreens for the top of the tree. Angle the evergreens so that they point downward. Work around the cone to create a complete layer before moving to the next. Fill in the top third of the tree. Complete the remaining third of the tree by choosing appropriately sized evergreens to blend the top and the bottom into a gradual slope. Insert a short section of evergreens into the top of the cone. A bushy section works best for this.
-
Step 4
Create ribbons from narrow red ribbon. Attach the ribbons to floral picks. Insert them through the evergreens and into the cone at intervals. Attach cones, miniature ornaments, dried flowers, and lace to floral picks. Insert these things into the cone as decorations for your tree.

Step 5
Fluff out and perfect the tree until it looks just right for some yule tide celebrations. Enjoy all season long!
