How to Play the Card Game Blitz

The game of Blitz is a fairly straightforward card game where players are tasked with drawing and discarding cards to make the highest valued hand in the same suit as the table. As soon as a player feels his hand is the highest, he may choose to knock. The game stops and all the players reveal their hands. But if the player who knocked doesn’t have the highest hand, he loses a chip. Once a player is out of chips, he is out of the game. This is a great game to play with players of all ages.

Instructions

    • 1

Deal out the deck until all players have a total of three cards in hand. The remaining cards are placed towards the center of the table and will act as the draw pile for the remainder of the hand. The top card is turned over and placed next to the draw pile and will represent the discard pile.

    • 2

Draw a card, either from the top draw pile or the top of the discard pile.

    • 3

Add the card to your hand. You are tasked with trying to get the highest amount of points in the same suit at the table, the maximum possible being 31 points. Aces are worth 11 points, face cards are worth 10 and the remaining cards are valued at face—10 worth 10, nine worth nine, eight worth eight and so on down the line.

    • 4

Discard a card from your hand, bringing your hand down to three.

    • 5

Knock as soon as you believe you have the highest valued hand at the table--again, 31 points being the maximum possible. All players then reveal their hands.

    • 6

Lose a poker chip if you have knocked and do not have the highest hand at the table. Gain a poker chip from the lowest hand at the table if you knocked and have the highest hand. No matter which scenario, you will lose a chip when you have the lowest hand at the table--either given to the highest when they have knocked or placed in the center when not. As soon as you run out of chips, you are out of the game.

    • 7

Win the game of Blitz by being the last person with chips in front of you.

Tips & Warnings

  • To determine the order of play for the game of Blitz, simply deal out the cards face up until one player is dealt a jack. This player will act as the first dealer. Subsequent deals will move to the left in a clockwise direction around the table.

  • Each player should start out a game of Blitz with three poker chips.
