How to Enjoy the Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is one of the most recognizable structures in the world and has become a symbol of France. Built for the 1889 Universal Exhibition, it was considered the tallest building in the world until the Empire State Building was completed in 1931. Today it serves as a major tourist destination, attracting more than 250 million visitors per year. Additionally, it functions as an important support for numerous radio and television broadcast antennas.

      View the tower from the ground.The Eiffel Tower is an extremely impressive structure that can only be appreciated in person. Although parts of the tower can be seen from almost any location in Paris, closer inspection will allow a full view. From across the Seine, you will find a wonderful view from the Jardin de Trocadero. To the southeast of the tower, you will find a large pedestrian and garden area between the Ave Guistave Eiffel and Place Joffre. Numerous Seine boat tours offer a great view from the water.

      Visit the Cinemax museum.Located on the first level, this small museum offers visitors a history of the tower. There are photographs, drawings and even a short movie which includes footage of some famous people who have visited the tower.

      Dine at one of the restaurants in the tower.There are several places to dine while visiting the Eiffel Tower. A selection of buffet items can be found on the ground, first and second level of the tower. These locations offer sandwiches, salads and drinks at a reasonable cost. For something more substantial, the Altitude 95 restaurant on the first level is a great choice. Presenting a broad menu of fare, this restaurant also offers a stunning view of the city while you dine.For very special occasions, check out Le Jules Verne located on the second level. This is one of the most impressive restaurants in Paris, offering a modern French menu. Be forewarned, this is an extremely expensive restaurant and reservations must be made months in advance.

      Go up to enjoy the view.Traveling up the Eiffel Tower can be accomplished by foot or by elevator. The stairs are open to the public, but are only available to the second level. There are 360 steps from the ground to the first floor and another 700 to reach the second level. You must take an elevator to reach the top level.Elevators are available to the public in the north, east and west pillars of the tower. These elevators will take you to the first and second level where you can connect with the double-decker elevator to reach the top. The elevator in the south pillar is reserved for guests of Le Jules Verne only.

  • The top level of the tower can hold up to 800 people.
