Dress Like Kiss For Halloween

If you want to rock and roll all night this Halloween, dressing up like the rock super group Kiss is the way to go. Led by front man Gene Simmons, the band is known for their signature Kabuki-esque makeup and outrageous clothing. All you need to achieve the same effect is a little leather or vinyl, some tall boots, and a lot of makeup. Gather up your three best friends so each of you can represent one member of the group. Party everyday until Halloween!

Things You'll Need

  • Really tall platform boots
  • White, black, and silver makeup
  • Black spandex jumpsuits
  • Plenty of metal studs
  • Silver metallic fabric
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • Red and black lipstick
  • Shaggy black rocker wigs
  • Fake blood (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

You and your friends should decide which member of Kiss you would like to be. This doesn’t mean you can’t have four Paul Stanleys if you really wanted to.

    • 2

Customize your jumpsuit. This could include using scissors to cut the sleeves off of your jumpsuit or cutting out holes along the sides of your suit. Because each member of Kiss has their own look, you and your friends should each customize your own jumpsuits accordingly.

    • 3

Sew details onto your jumpsuits with your silver fabric. This will take some basic sewing machine knowledge. One of you can attach to your jumpsuit thick, Judy Jetson-style sleeves like Ace Frehley. Another can add silver lapels as in Paul Stanley. Again, each of you should customize your outfits to the member of Kiss you are representing.

    • 4

Add your metal studs. Be generous with the amount of studs you each use to accent your jumpsuits. If you have a device like a Bedazzler, this can be a really simple process. If not, you can still apply your studs by hand, you will just need a little more time and patience. To apply your studs, simply push the prongs from the front of your material to the back. Fold the tabs back to hold the stud in place.

    • 5

Climb into the boots. Try to find the tallest ones you can; you really want to be larger than life. Feel free to decorate your boots as well, whether it be paintings of dragon scales, flecks of glitter, or anything else.

    • 6

Put on your rocker wig. These wigs are usually available at your local party and costume shop, especially around Halloween. If you have long hair, tie it back and put it into a hair net before applying your wig.

    • 7

Apply your makeup. Each face will begin with a base coat of white makeup, but each member of the band has their own distinctive way of representing their character. For example, Gene’s makeup style is called “the demon,” Paul Stanley’s is “the starchild,” Peter Criss is “the catman,” and Ace Frehley is “the spaceman.”

Gene Simmons is often spitting fire or dripping with fake blood. If desired, add fake blood to the front of your face and neck.

Tips & Warnings

  • For an added authenticity, carry around instruments or microphones.

  • Before applying your makeup, check it elsewhere on your skin to be sure you are not allergic.
