How to Make a Screenshot

Screen shots are useful for creating tutorials and images and saving information from websites and applications. A screen shot is an exact image of whatever is on your computer at the time. You can take a screen shot of just the active application screen or the full screen.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • PrintScreen software (See Resources to download)

    Using Your Keyboard

  1. Step 1

    Open the application, browser window or anything else you may want to take a screen shot of.

  2. Step 2

    Press the key PrtSc to capture the full screen. Press Alt+PrtSc to capture onlu the active portion of a screen.

  3. Step 3

    Open a program such as Paint and press Ctrl + V to paste in the image.

  4. Step 4

    Save the image.

  5. Using Gadwin PrintScreen

  6. Step 1

    Download and install Gadwin PrintScreen.

  7. Step 2

    Set your preferences to choose when to capture screen shots and which hot key to use. The default is PrtSc.

  8. Step 3

    Choose your source and destination options on the left of the application screen.

  9. Step 4

    Finish setting up your image preferences in the Image section of the application screen.

  10. Step 5

    Press PrtSc or any other hot key you chose in Step 2 to test your settings.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you take screen shots often, using the program option will save you time.
  • If taking screen shots of confidential or private information, be sure to save the image in a secure place. Saving it to a disk or flash drive will be safer than storing it on your computer.
