Do a Round-off

A round-off is an acrobatic move that is a cross between a cartwheel and a forward flip-flop. It is often performed by a gymnast as the first in a series of tumbling moves that require the spring generated by the round-off’s height and momentum. Master the cartwheel before attempting this move.

Instructions

    • 1

Run in a straight line, and launch into an accelerated cartwheel–arms spread above your head in a “V,” and legs following suit.

    • 2

Snap your feet and legs together mid-tumble, when you are completely upside down with both hands on the ground and both feet in the air, pivoting your body and arms from an “X” shape, to a straight handstand.

    • 3

Twist your position so that you land, feet together, facing the opposite direction from where you started.

    • 4

Allow the momentum generated by the move to help you bounce into another move, or just bounce the landing.

Tips & Warnings

  • The faster you run into the round-off, the better bounce you should get from the landing.

  • Always use a mat or soft surface when performing acrobatics.
