How to Defeat the Marilith Boss in "Icewind Dale"

The PC role-playing game "Icewind Dale" has several boss battles that pit your party of adventurers against powerful creatures such as demons and dragons. The hardest fight in the game occurs with a six-armed demon called a marilith who is highly resistant to physical and magical attacks.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Instructions

1. 
    
   The Entrance to Dragon's Eye

   Play through the game until the party explores the caves inside the volcano called Dragon's Eye.

2. 
    
   Monsters inside Dragon's Eye

   Fight the various creatures inside Dragon's Eye until each member of your party is at least ninth level.

3. Have your wizard character cast the "haste" spell on the party and then have your cleric character cast either the "bless" or "chant" spell to give your group an edge in combat.

4. 
    
   A Magic Weapon

   Equip all of your front line fighters and clerics with the strongest magic weapons you can find. Return to the town of Kuldahar and purchase more potent magic weapons if you haven't found many while traveling through the tunnels inside Dragon's Eye.

5. 
    
   The Marilith Yxunomei

   Enter the room in the fifth level of Dragon's Eye where the marilith demon named Yxunomei is waiting for your group. Have one character hang in the back of the room to fire arrows at her while your fighters or clerics use direct physical attacks. Have your wizard cast the highest level spells available to you on Yxunomei, then switch to casting the lower-level spells on the snake men that fight alongside her. After 15 or 20 rounds of combat, Yxunomei should fall to your attacks.

Tips & Warnings

• Yxunomei can only be damaged by magic weapons that have a "+3" or higher enchantment bonus. You can get around this by equipping a character with a bow that has a "+2" bonus and then having them use "+1" magic arrows.
• Many of the lower-level attack spells such as "magic missile" will not harm the marilith demon because of her spell resistance, so cast those instead on her minions.
