Keep sodas and juices in the refrigerator. Have Coke or Pepsi and a diet soda, as well as tonic water, club soda and Sprite or ginger ale. Essential juices include orange, pineapple and cranberry juice.

Have a basic supply of beers. Get a light beer, a domestic beer, a dark beer and an imported beer.

Get some standard wines. Chardonnays, zinfandels, and merlots will do the trick. This gives you one white, one rose and one red wine. Don't refrigerate the red wine.

Obtain basic liquors. Purchase rum, gin, vodka, whisky, tequila, triple sec and bourbon. Add some liqueurs like peach schnapps, melon and raspberry liqueurs to make a sex on the beach drink. Select a cognac and a brandy.

Keep basic bartending supplies around. You need a mixing tin, a strainer and a blender for frozen drinks. Have some daiquiri mix and margarita mix.
