How to Open a Cleaning Business in South Florida
One of the professions that has a lot of demand is a cleaning business. It is also a business that does not require a very high overhead. With just a few tools and supplies, you can start your own cleaning business in South Florida, whether for residential or commercial businesses.

1
Make a business plan, even if you do not need to apply for financing. A business plan helps to keep your plan on track. Business plans should include demographics of the area of South Florida you will be servicing, how you will handle any loans, how you will pay back loans and when and if you will be using part of the loans for operating costs.

2
Procure the appropriate state licenses and permits. You must register a business name with the state of Florida. You also need a tax number, in the event that your company will sell products. All South Florida counties require county licenses, though the licenses may be different for each county. Check with your county for licenses specific to that county. South Florida cities may also require licenses; check with the tax collector in your city for any licenses your city may require (in addition to the county and state licenses). You will also need to procure a federal employee ID number, which you can do easily online (see Resources).

Purchase supplies and a vehicle. If you don’t already have a proper vehicle, you need to purchase a small van. You also need cleaning supplies for various cleaning jobs--dusting spray, toilet cleaner, window cleaner and floor cleaner. Purchase cleaning equipment, such as a vacuum cleaner, waxing machine, rags or towels and soap. Check some of the big-box department stores and hardware stores for these items. Some stores in South Florida include Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes and Ace Hardware stores.

4
Set up an invoicing system and accounting system. If you do not know how to do business accounting, you need to hire an accountant at this point. If you do not have a business bank account, set that up now. If you plan on accepting credit cards, contact your local bank or a credit card processing company to set this up.

5
Advertise your new business. Advertise in the local paper; some of the smaller papers may be cheaper than the larger paper, but you may not get as many customers. You can also advertise on places such as Craigslist and Kiminji, which are free.
