How to Make a Dog Bookmark
The world's oldest bookmarks can be traced back to Medieval times. Monks used bookmarks in monasteries. In the late 1500s, Queen Elizabeth received a bookmark made from silk as a gift from her printer. Silk ribbon used as bookmarks became the norm for many decades. Most books were even bound with a ribbon attached in the spine. During the Victorian era, it was common for ladies to embroider their own bookmarks. Making personalized bookmarks is still a fairly common practice today.

Open a laminating pouch and carefully slide the finished bookmark inside. Smooth out the laminate, then trim the excess.
Create the Tassel
-
7
Cut at least four strands of DMC floss to the same length. Cut one strand so that it is 3 inches longer than the other four strands.
-
8
Gather all five strands together and fold them in half. Make sure that the long piece has the same amount of excess hanging from both ends.
-
9
Hold onto the bunch while pulling the loop of the long strand out 2 inches. Tie the bunch in a knot as close to the fold as is possible.
-
10
Use the hole punch to make a hole near the top of the bookmark. Slide the long loop of the tassel through the hole, then pull the tassel through the loop.
Tips & Warnings
If you choose to decorate your bookmark with any large objects, like plastic beads, laminating may be more difficult. It may also limit the usability of the bookmark. In general, the flatter the bookmark, the better it works.
You may use a photograph of your own dog also. Printing it on regular paper, rather than photo paper, may work best.
