Decorating your front porch with pumpkins and other mementos of autumn bring a warm and cozy feeling to your home and neighborhood. When it comes to fall decor, go for simple and impressive over quantity. With the use of haystacks, pumpkins and colorful mums, you can easily create a harvest curb appeal in no time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 or 2 square hay bales
  • Pumpkins of various sizes
  • Large potted mum of various colors
  1. Step 1

Create a plan-o-gram. When retail stores are deciding the layout of their items, they devise a plan-o-gram to efficiently put things in places that will be the viewed by the customers. Do the same when planning your fron porch decor. Keep in mind what the view will be from the street.

  2. Step 2

Place haystacks. Haystacks should be used as a backdrop for the pumpkin display. Lay one haystack down on its side and position the second haystack to lean onto the first one.

  3. Step 3

Arrange pumpkins. Place one or two smaller pumpkins haphazardly on top of the haystacks. Place a larger pumpkin or two on the ground in front of the haystacks.

  4. Step 4

Combine pumpkins and mums. If you have a set of steps leading up to your porch, hollow out one pumpkin for each step and use the hollowed pumpkins as planters for your mums. Simply insert one mum pot into each pumpkin.

  5. Step 5

Decorate the doorway. Position two of the largest mums and two of the largest pumpkins on either side of the doorway. This will create a symetric entryway leading into your home.

  6. Step 6

Carve out a jack-a-lantern. Cut out faces and designs into a few pumpkins and use them to light the way along your sidewalk leading to the porch. Battery-operated tea lights are just as effective as a lit candle when inside a pumpkin.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never leave an unattended candle burning inside of a pumpkin.
