How to Persuade Someone to Do Yoga

When you find something that makes you feel good, you want to share it with those you care about. When it comes to wellness activities, many people can be a bit skeptical. They come up with all kinds of barriers from time to old injuries.

Instructions

1. Ask the person if they have been experiencing a lot of stress lately. Have them explain what the stress is from and what they do to control it. Tell them that practicing yoga regularly can relax the body and mind, greatly reducing stress levels.

2. Talk about the daily aches and pains we often associate with aging. Explain the increased flexibility and any pain relief you have experienced since starting yoga.

3. Discuss the different levels of yoga, and ensure them that their first class will be at a beginner level not requiring advanced moves like head stands.

4. Give the person a variety of options for fitting in yoga. Know the days and times of classes offered so they will be more likely to find a time that will work with their busy schedule.

5. Tell the person that they only have to try it once. If they don’t like it they don’t have to return.

6. Ask your instructor if you can bring a guest to try the class for free. If this isn’t an option, offer to pay for one class to encourage your loved one to participate with you.

• Barriers due to religious beliefs are more common than you might think for people who are unfamiliar with yoga. Be sure to discuss this topic and the fact that people of all religious backgrounds can enjoy the benefits of yoga.

• Make sure you know your loved one’s health background before encouraging them to participate with you. There forms of yoga to fit all abilities, but you don’t want to encourage them to participate in something that could cause a medical complication.
