A web host reseller is someone who buys web hosting space in bulk from a web server provider and resells that space to website owners who host their sites with the reseller. Websites are hosted on servers and resellers host most of the websites you visit daily. Website reselling is a multi-million dollar business and there are thousands of resellers operating on the internet today.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Personal Computer
  • Internet Access
  1. Step 1

Log onto the Internet and research web server providers. This will allow you to know what other resellers are doing, who provides the best web hosting packages and the web server companies that offer the best services. Research the best names for your reseller business. Select a name that says what your business does instantly. Register your domain name with a domain service provider.

  2. Step 2

Set up your web host reseller business. Yes, this is a business and to be successful, you must take it as such. Go to your local county clerk’s office and register your business name. Select a name that complements the domain name you registered in Step 1. Open a business bank account in your new business name and complete your business incorporation if you desire to incorporate your business.

  3. Step 3

Contact the web space provider of your choice. Most providers offer many types of packages including the partner/agent package, starter package, VPN (Virtual Private Network) package and dedicated server hosting package where you own and manage the servers. Different providers offer different packages so do your research.

  4. Step 4

Sign up for the package of your choice with your preferred server provider. The package you choose will depend on your experience with servers and the prices of the packages.

  5. Step 5

Build your website to announce your web hosting reseller business. Website owners will sign up for your services and pay you through your website.

Tips & Warnings
  • Before signing up for a web hosting reseller package, host a website with the web server provider you are considering so you can test drive their servers and judge the quality of their customer service.
  • Most providers offer Linux and ASP packages. These are hosted on Linux or IBM, and Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) enabled servers. The package you choose depends on the server technology you are familiar with and the type of websites you want to host.
  • Before signing up with any server provider, research them to make sure they are legitimate. Call the BBB (Better Business Bureau) in the city they are located. Check web hosting forums to read what other website owners are saying about them. Ask to see some of the websites they currently host and test them for loading speed. Call them to see if someone answers or email them to see how long it takes them to respond.
