How to Link a Zune, Xbox Live and MSN Messenger Identity Together

      Determine which e-mail address you wish to use as your primary, personal e-mail. This will be the linking factor between your identities, so it is important that this e-mail address is permanent and not tied to a service provider or personal work.

      Go to the Xbox official website and log in. Click on your gamer tag and change your profile. Change your e-mail address to the singular e-mail that you decided on.

      Open the Zune program on your computer. At the very top corner you will see your avatar. Click on it to view your profile. A new window will open where you can change your preferences. Change your e-mail address to the one that you chose. This may take a minute and you will probably have to click through an error message or two regarding your Live ID.

      Sign up for a new Windows Live (MSN) Messenger account. Because your MSN/Live username is your e-mail, you'll have to re-import your contacts, or make sure your friends know your new e-mail address.

    Step 3 isn't very helpful. I would suggest right clicking your picture (which is in the left hand corner of the Zune window) and selecting 'Account Settings'. From there, you go to 'Contact Information'. This is found under 'Personal Information'. This may be more confusing, but it'll get you to where you're being asked to go. Now, if only it mentioned in which way your gamertag and your Zune account were linked. Simply by having a gamertag, the name for the zune account is the same. What about those of us who didn't realize this and have separate names for our gamertag and our zune account and would like to switch the zune account to the gamertag without losing our song playcount/preferences and badges?
