A handfasting is a special event that is much like a wedding. It is a commitment ceremony between two loving individuals for a year and a day. It can be renewed afterwards for many years to come. A headdress for a handfasting is easy to create with just a few items.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Thick plastic headband
  • Hot glue and glue gun
  • 1 yard of lace material
  • 7 to 10 artificial flower heads
  1. Step 1

Organize your supplies in a large flat area. This will make things easier to reach but also easier when you are waiting for the glue to dry. You can buy artificial flower heads at many craft stores. Use your favorite flower as a symbolic gesture for your handfasting.

  2. Step 2

After you have arranged your items take your flower heads and begin gluing them to the top part of the headband. You can create your own style with big and little flowers or all giant flowers. Hold each flower head on for at least 30 seconds before adding the next one. Finish it off by covering the whole headband.

  3. Step 3

Adding lace is the next step in creating a beautiful headdress for your handfasting. The lace material should be a rectangular cut that is at least one yard in length. There are many types of lace material that you can choose from. Find one that suits your style, taste and the dress you are wearing. Lay out your lace material so that it is flat. Choose a corner and fold down until you make a straight line as wide as the inside of your headband. Glue this area so that it stays in place.

  4. Step 4

Take the folded edge of your lace and place a glue line (or two) across it. Fit this into the underside of your headband. Hold for at least 1 minute so that the glue dries. Hot glue guns work best for this project because the glue dries fast.

  5. Step 5

After the glue has dried try on your headband. It should fall over your hair and down your back in a v-shape.

  6. Step 6

If you have left over flower heads and want to add a bit of embellishment to your headdress, glue them around the bottom edges of your lace material. Smaller flower heads work well for this embellishment. You will look incredible at your handfasting with this beautiful handmade headdress.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep your colors simple when choosing flower heads. White lilies and red roses are great for handfastings as symbols of love and purity.
  • Don't forget to unplug your glue gun and be careful. Glue gun burns are not something you want to deal with before your handfasting.
