1
Choose five doilies for your Christmas tree. You can use five different sized doilies to create a tapered effect, or you can use the same size doilies and just stretch some to make them larger. Do not use doilies that are too large. The largest doilies should be 5 to 6 inches at most.
-
2
Paint a small clay pot with silver or gold craft paint. You can choose the color you like most, or you can use a varied pattern of both colors. Gold and silver gives your doily Christmas tree a more elegant and sophisticated look.

3
Fill the pot 3/4 full with modeling clay. This will hold the doily Christmas tree in place once it is finished.
-
4
Pour some fabric stiffener into a plastic or metal bowl.
-
5
Dip the largest doily into the fabric stiffener and coat the entire surface in the stiffener solution.
-
6
Hold the long pencil in your hand and slide the largest doily all of the way to the bottom, so that the bottom of the doily is even with the bottom of the pencil.
-
7
Repeat Steps 4 and 5 with the remaining doilies, leaving a few inches of space between each one on the pencil, and working your way to the tip of the pencil. The last doily should sit just below the tip of the pencil.
-
8
Form the doilies into the shape of a Christmas tree. The bottom doilies just like bottom branches on a tree should be flatter, and the top doilies more peaked.
-
9
Place the end of the pencil into the modeling clay within the clay pot, and adjust the doily branches of your Christmas tree as needed. As the doilies dry, the tree may begin to hand down too much, reshape the doilies every so often until they have dried completely.
-
10
Scatter some white, gold or silver paper shred on top of the modeling clay in the clay pot, for decoration along the base of your doily Christmas tree. Visit the Resources section below for information on other unique Christmas tree crafts.
