Garage sales are great ways to make some extra money by getting rid of the items around your house that you no longer need. A garage sale does not work, though, if you do not advertise, and one of the ways to advertise is by putting up a garage sale flyer.

How to Make a Garage Sale Flyer

  1. Step 1
Make sure the date of the garage sale can be clearly seen.

Set a date for your garage sale. The date you set for your garage sale is very important. Generally, a Saturday is the best day for your garage sale, as the most people will not be working. You could also have your garage sale on a Sunday. Be prepared to begin early on the day of your sale as many people try to get to garage sales early to get the best deals.

  2. Step 2

Place your address on your garage sale flyer, as well as any directions need to get to your house. If your house is difficult to find be sure to give explicit directions. You could also add any distinctive information such as "Next door to the house with the giant purple rabbit in the front yard".

  3. Step 3

List what items you will be selling that will be most attractive to buyers. Buyers look for furniture, baby clothes and baby gear. These you may want to make more prominent on your page while also listing everything else you will be selling. If, for instance, you have a large amount of dishes do not list each one. Instead just list "Dishware." If you have special pieces such as an antique serving bowl, then list that separately.

  4. Step 4

Give prices for some items or a range of prices as well as stating whether prices are negotiable or firm. Be prepared to negotiate on almost all of your items as most people who attend your garage sale will be expecting to get a deal.

  5. Step 5

Add a few pictures to your flyer if you can, especially of the items you think most people will be interested in. You do not have to take a picture of every item you will be selling; instead focus on two or three big ticket or antique items. Place these pictures in a prominent position to help draw attention to your flyer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Put fliers up at your corner grocery store or gas station, or even your job.
