3. Consider surgery for your canine. Often the best treatment for your dog is surgery. This aids in straightening affected bones which allows your dog to recover from the condition. Surgery is typically the most successful when angular limb deformities are diagnosed early.

4. Limit your canine’s activity. While your dog is recovering his activity should be limited. Keeping him leashed can reduce excess roaming.

5. Put your dog on bed rest. Move your dog’s bed to a quiet place in your home. Encourage your dog to relax so he can heal from surgery. If you have small children in the home, remind them to allow your canine to rest.

• Request an Elizabethan collar. If your vet doesn’t provide a collar make sure to request one. This will aid in allowing your dog to heal so he doesn’t lick the wound.

• Monitor your dog’s condition closely. If your canine has surgery there will be an incision healing. Check the affected area daily for signs of redness or swelling. If you notice any changes call your vet for an exam. Antibiotics may be needed if the area becomes infected.
