Have special fun this Halloween by emphasizing that precious pumpkin that is on the way. An expectant mommy can dress up in a Great Pumpkin costume and have daddy accompany her dressed as Linus from the beloved story, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." If you already have a little one, a Snoopy costume is another perfect addition. Make this colorful costume that will feature your pregnancy and be an unforgettable conversation-starter wherever you go.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tan or brown knit or crochet hat
  • Orange sweatshirt
  • Brown slacks, leggings or sweats
  • 2 green felt squares, one light, one dark
  • Non-toxic green, black, brown and orange fabric paint
  • Glitter paint
  • Craft paintbrush
  • 2- to 3-inch-wide orange, yellow or green ribbon
  • Green chenille stems
  1. Step 1

Place your orange sweatshirt on your work surface. Put a piece of cardboard inside the shirt. Paint orange curved lines down the length of the shirt to mimic a pumpkin's curves. Immediately paint a thin brown line in the wet orange paint for shading. Let dry. Repeat with the other side of the shirt.

  2. Step 2

Place your light-green and dark-green felt on your work surface. Draw a leaf shape on each piece of felt. Cut the leaves out.

  3. Step 3

With green paint, fill in the veins of the leaf for a more realistic look.

  4. Step 4

Sew the leaves to your tan or brown knit or crochet hat in any configuration you prefer. Coil green chenille stems around a pencil. Pull the coil off. Attach to the hat near the leaves with craft glue, or hand-sew them on. These are your pumpkin vines.

  5. Step 5

Lay your ribbon out on your work surface. Write "The Great Pumpkin" on the ribbon with glitter paint, as if you were lettering a beauty pageant banner. Let dry at least 48 hours.

  6. Step 6

Dress in pants (brown slacks, leggings or sweats) and the decorated sweatshirt. Pin the banner on with safety pins. Put on your hat for the stem of your Great Pumpkin costume.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you can not find a brown or tan hat, orange will also work.
  • If you live in a cold-weather area, buy a sweatshirt large enough to wear over a sweater or jacket.
