How to Play the Raga Hari Nata Scale on the Guitar

The Raga Hari Nata scale is not as unusual as other raga scales. Six of its seven notes are very similar to the major scale of western music. Try adding this scale to your daily practice schedule. It is a fun and interesting way to add some new life to the monotony of your daily regimen.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Begin by locating the eighth fret on the low E string of your guitar. This will be the root note and starting point of the Raga Hari Nata scale.

  2. Step 2

    Find the seventh fret on the A string. This is an E. E is the second degree of the Raga Hari Nata scale.

  3. Step 3

    Find the eighth fret on the A string and pluck the string. This is F. F is the third degree of the Raga Hari Nata scale.

  4. Step 4

    Continue by locating fret number ten on your A string. This is G. G is the fourth degree of the Raga Hari Nata scale.

  5. Step 5

    Locate fret number seven on the D string of your guitar. This is the note A. A is the fifth degree of the Raga Hari Nata scale.

  6. Step 6

    Play fret number nine on the D string. This is B. B is the sixth degree of the Raga Hari Nata scale.

  7. Step 7

    Play fret number ten on the D string. This is C played one octave above the original root note.

  8. Step 8

    Play the steps in reverse beginning at step seven until you return to the original root note in step number one.

  • It is important to practice scales with a metronome. This will help you develop a strong sense of "time." Good timing is crucial to becoming a good guitar player.
