Packing a vehicle for a vacation can be as important as packing for the actual trip. Knowing what you need to have available while traveling in your automobile is paramount to an enjoyable and safe journey. Here are a few guidelines on packing your car or truck before you hit the road.

Things You'll Need:

  • Cooler
  • Wet wipes
  • GPS system
  1. Step 1

Make sure you have all of your luggage. Do a check before you actually leave your driveway. Having to return home due to missed baggage can put you behind on your entire travel schedule.

  2. Step 2

Take medications with you. Not only do you need any individual medications you or your family might need, consider bringing regular over-the-counter medicine, such as aspirin and antacid. These are things you can have readily available to alleviate the need to stop at a random store and pay higher prices. It is also convenient to have during long trips on the interstate where there are no stores available.

  3. Step 3

Have a cooler for drinks and snacks. Having snacks and drinks available also alleviates the need for stops to the store.

  4. Step 4

Take wet wipes. Always have a way of cleaning up any minor spills or accidents so that they don’t become worse. Having clean up wipes can also clear your windshield from the inside so you can see well while driving.

  5. Step 5

Buy or borrow a GPS unit. A GPS unit helps you find locations and roads even if you have a map. A GPS can find hotels, restaurants and gas stations in unfamiliar towns. Having one is not essential, but it can help your trip go more smoothly and help you find places easier.

  6. Step 6

Have things to do. If you have children or other passengers, have books or games for them to keep occupied. A long trip can be boring for the people not driving. Hand-held games, crosswords, books and even DVD players can make a trip seem much shorter.
