How to Frame a Painted Canvas
A frame and mat make a canvas painting look finished and ready to hang. You can frame and mat a canvas yourself with a few simple tips.
Instructions
-
-
1
Measure the canvas. Write down the length, width and depth. The depth is how thick the canvas is.
-
2
Buy a frame that corresponds to the measurements in Step 1. Many canvases have a generic depth measurement, so be aware that your canvas may not fit if you do not check the depth.
-
-
3
Measure the inner lip of the frame.
-
4
Using the measurement in Step 3, purchase a mat and a pane of glass.
-
5
Clean the glass.
-
6
Place the pane of glass in the frame.
-
7
Place the mat on top of the glass.
-
8
Place the canvas on top of the mat and secure it with canvas clips or framing clips.
