      Select where you would like to insert the reference footnote. Click anywhere on the document with the mouse to select the area of placement.

      Open the reference footnote menu. Click on “Insert” and then select “Reference.” In the submenu that opens select “Footnote.”

      Select the location. Under the “Location” field click on the desired location for the reference footnote either beneath the text or at the bottom of the page by choosing your selection from the dropdown menu.

      Choose the format. Under the “Format” field you can choose the number format and layout, and where the reference footnote begins by making the desired selections from the dropdown menu.

      Insert the reference footnote. Click on the “Insert” button to insert the reference footnote into the document.

  • Reference footnotes are great for making notations to portions of text and or documents.

  • Reference footnotes will not print.
