Step 2
Apply during your senior year for acceptance into the resident contract program. There are no accredited veterinary schools in Nevada; however, the state has arranged for reduced tuition for a limited number of their graduates to attend veterinary school at Colorado State University, Washington State University or Oregon State University. Attend and graduate from a 4-year veterinary school and pass the board exam.
-
Step 3
Contact the American Board of Veterinary Specialties to apply for admission to the specialty residency program of your choice.
-
Step 4
Complete the required 1-year internship. The association that oversees your specialty program will help you locate an internship in Reno.
-

Most residencies consist of 2 or 3 years of study and clinical practice under the supervision of a Diplomate who continues to be active with the specialty association. That association will attempt to locate a residency as close as possible to Reno.

Step 6
Assemble all of the materials required for your credentials packet and submit the packet to the specialty organization for review. Upon acceptance of your credentials, register for your specialty board exam.
