  2. Step 2

Use light fixtures made with recycled glass.

  3. Step 3

Use recycled aluminum, metal and steel.

  4. Step 4

Use lamp bases made with sustainably harvested wood such as bamboo. Use materials that are easily renewable or reproduced.

  5. Step 5

Choose products made from post-industrial waste products.

  6. Step 6

Choose lampshades made with linens. Decorated prints and recycled cardboard are great options as well. Felt paper is also recyclable.

  8. Step 8

Choose a light fixture that incorporates a timing device or sensor to save on energy.

  9. Step 9

Use solar powered lights for the outdoors.

  10. Step 10

Know what to ask if you are looking for an eco-friendly light fixture. Find out if the light fixture is made of recycled or recyclable material. Check if the accessories used are biodegradable. Is it long lasting or durable? Will it complement your overall design?

Tips & Warnings
  • Find a light fixture that you can repurpose. An outdoor fixture can function for indoors as well.
  • Make sure when disposing fluorescent bulbs to contact the recycling centers near you to find out the proper procedures.
