Determine your budget and plan accordingly. Your budget will largely dictate what activities you do when you visit June Lake and where you stay. There are a range of price points to suit any budget. There are also many things to do outdoors that would cost you little or nothing.

    • 2

Decide what season you want to visit based on your interests. Take your pick from the following activities (not an exhaustive list) and choose the appropriate season: fishing, boating, bicycling, hiking, mountain climbing, water skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, exploring or photography. One of the most popular events in the June Lake Loop area is the annual monster trout contest in the spring. If you love fishing, this is an event not to miss.

    • 3

Make your lodging plans. Because June Lake is mainly a tourist town, you need to plan on where you want to stay early on and make your bookings as soon as possible. There is a variety of lodging options, from inns and motels to lakefront cabins. Some hotels also combine lodging with boat rental for a number of days (see Resources below).

    • 4

Book your flight and plan your ground transportation in advance. If flying in, the closest major airport is Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT), which is about 75 miles away. It is best to rent a car. Book your rental in advance to make things easy. Some rental companies allow you to check in online and you can then go directly to the lot to pick up your car. Of course, you can also take a car service or limo for your drive to June Lake, but these are much more expensive.

    • 5

Arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight to allow for security checks. Check in online ahead of time, even if you are checking bags. Also check the airline website for updated security advisories before leaving for the airport. Once in Fresno, take your ground transportation of choice and enjoy your visit and the long drive to June Lake.
