Things You'll Need:
- Cardstock
- Red balloon
- Googly eyes
- Feathers
- Black marker
- Scissors
- Craft glue
-
Step 1
Create the framework of the Thanksgiving Day card by using a standard-size piece of cardstock. Fold the paper in half horizontally. Decorate the outside of the card with simple drawings or words. Try a saying like, "I’m so thankful…" Later, on the inside of the card, you can finish the quote with, "I'm not a turkey. Happy Thanksgiving."
-
Step 2
Form the base of the pop-up insert by cutting a 4-inch by 4-inch square from the same color cardstock as the card. Bend the square in half to form a crease. Make a ¼-inch tab on the right and left sides of the square by folding the edges under. Line up the crease of the square insert with the fold in the card and glue the tabs to the card. When the Thanksgiving card is closed up, the pop-up insert should fold forward inside the card.
-
Step 3
Draw and cut a turkey body, head, beak, feathers and wings from a sheet of cardstock or construction paper. The design and size of the turkey can be as simple or as complex as you choose. To insure the operation of the pop-up portion, keep the dimensions of the turkey body only slightly larger than the card insert. Use a black marker to add details to the feathers and wings.
-
Step 4
Build the turkey by attaching the cardstock pieces with glue. Create the turkey's face by adding googly eyes, a cardstock beak and the gizzard made by cutting off the tip of a red balloon. Glue a few colorful craft feather the underside of the turkey body. Allow the completed turkey to dry before moving on to the next step.
-
Step 5
Glue the turkey to the pop-up addition of the Thanksgiving card. Fold the excess body and wings in so they are even with the outer edges of the pop-up insert. Add the cardstock feathers behind the turkey and glue them directly to the card. When the card is shut, the entire pop-up turkey should fold inside it. Complete the card by writing your message on the inside.
